Bravery at its Best

This week has been a very big week for the Jeanes family. On Monday, February 9th, Kevin's mother, Jerri, had her first of two major back surgeries at Georgetown Hospital. Then on Thursday, February 12th, she had the second major surgery. We have been talking about and planning for this week for months now, even before Aaron was born. It's so hard to believe it's here! Long story short, Jerri has had scoliosis her whole life and has lived with chronic back pain for a long time, and was getting to the point where she was unable to walk very far without being in tremendous pain. She saw one of the best back surgeons in the area and he was/is confident that back surgery that involves inserting cages, rods and screws and fusing together 7-10 vertebrae can relieve much of her pain, make her back straighter, and give her back her ability to walk and exercise instead of eventually being confined to a wheel chair for her "golden years." Today, Valentine's Day, Kevin, Aaron, Andy (Kevin's older brother) and I all drove in to see "Nanna" and bring her some Valentine cheer. She was still very heavily sedated on medications but was able to interact with us pretty well. She's got a long road to recovery, but she really is so courageous to undertake such a major surgery and we pray that this gives her some of her enjoyment for life back!
